In 1796, Schikaneder produced many operas, sometimes written by several composers on the team, such as
In those days, a new opera, receiving little response, was performed only a few times and then disappeared. Therefore, “The Tyrolean Wastl,” with its 130 performances between 1796 and 1856, must be considered a sensational success; after “The Magic Flute,” it is Schikaneder’s second most successful opera!

Elli Suokas (Finnland>USA) sings the aria “Die Tiroler sind lustig”.

Elli Suokas (née Suokas-Steinback, 1895 Viipuri – 1931) was a Finnish-American singer. Until 1923, she was the only Finnish-American singer to make recordings. Suokas’ career began in Finland at the Finnish National Opera, and she also gave concerts in various parts of Finland. In early 1915, she studied in Stockholm with Adelaide von Skilondz. In late 1915, while on a concert tour in the United States, she remained in the country and married Steinback, a Norwegian-American.
Between 1916 and 1920, Suokas recorded over 30 albums for Columbia and Victor Records. After her music career, she moved to Michigan, where she is known to have performed occasionally.
